In short: In summer Vienna heads to the water and the green. The Danube Island stretches for more than 20 kilometres and becomes the city's beach, the Giant Ferris Wheel in the Prater has been turning since 1897, and in the evening people sit at a Heuriger among the vineyards on the edge of town.
Tips for hot days
Plan walking tours for the morning or early evening. At midday, churches and museums are pleasantly cool. Drinking fountains with Alpine spring water are found all over the city.
Events
Dates for the Danube Island Festival, the film festival on City Hall Square and summer concerts are listed by the Vienna Tourist Board.
