High above the Danube stands Aggstein, one of Austria's best-known castle ruins. On this family tour children become castle explorers.
The castle sits on a rock some 300 metres above the Danube, and many legends surround it. Your guide tells you about the Kuenringer lords and the dreaded Schreckenwald, who is said to have locked prisoners on a rocky ledge called the Rose Garden above the abyss. The children decide what is legend and what is history.
Inside the ruins they discover the gate, knights' hall, chapel and castle kitchen. With an explorer's map they look for arrow slits, a well and hidden corners and learn how a castle was defended and how hard life there could be.
From the castle rock everyone enjoys a wide view over the Danube valley. We plan the journey with you, for example from Melk. The tour is private and priced per group.
