This private tour takes you to Lockenhaus Castle in central Burgenland, one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Austria. Mysterious rooms, legends of the Templars and the story of the Nádasdy family make for an exciting visit.

The castle was built in the 13th century on the border between Austria and Hungary. Its most puzzling feature is the so-called cult chamber, a vaulted room with an opening in the ceiling that has inspired many legends, including tales of the Knights Templar.

Lockenhaus later belonged to the Nádasdy family, which links it to the notorious Countess Elizabeth Báthory. Your guide separates legend from history, shows you the knights' hall, courtyard and dungeon and explains how the castle was saved in the 20th century. Lockenhaus is also known for its chamber music festival.

This is a private tour: just your own group, your pace and plenty of time for questions. Our licensed guides are happy to adjust the focus to your interests before the day.
