From Danube Island beneath the Kahlenberg and Leopoldsberg to the abbey

Duration
3.0 hours
Languages
German, English

The Danube cycle path leads straight out of Vienna into the countryside. On this tour you ride with your guide from the city to Klosterneuburg Abbey.

From Danube Island you head upstream, past Nussdorf, where the Danube Canal branches off at Otto Wagner's lock and weir. Your guide explains how the Danube was regulated in the 19th century to protect Vienna from floods.

Beneath the slopes of the Kahlenberg and Leopoldsberg you pass Kahlenbergerdorf, a tiny wine village at the foot of the vineyards. These hills played a role in lifting the siege of Vienna in 1683, and your guide tells you what happened.

Your destination is Klosterneuburg with its abbey and crown-topped domes. Bikes or e-bikes can be rented or arranged for you on request. The return is by bike or train. The tour is private and priced per group.
