Grossglockner High Alpine Road
A day on Austria's most famous scenic road

- Duration
- 7.5 hours
- Languages
- German, English
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road leads deep into the Hohe Tauern mountains. With your guide you will experience glaciers, peaks and the story of a daring piece of engineering.
Opened in 1935, the road is still regarded as a masterpiece of engineering. Its hairpin bends climb from Salzburg's Fusch Valley over the Hochtor pass into Carinthia. Your guide explains how it was built during the Great Depression and what the old mule tracks across the main Alpine ridge reveal.
Along the way you stop at viewpoints such as the Fuscher Törl and, weather permitting, the Edelweissspitze. The highlight is Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, with views of the Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain, and the Pasterze, the country's largest glacier.
The road is only open in the summer months. We plan the vehicle and pick-up with you. The tour is private and priced per group.
