The Salzburg Festival was founded in 1920 and is one of the world's leading festivals of opera, theater and concerts. This private walk through the festival district tells of its founders, stars and legends.

After World War I, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Max Reinhardt and Richard Strauss wanted to create a festival of peace. Since 1920 the play Everyman has been performed on Cathedral Square, with the call from the tower as its climax.

Along Hofstallgasse stand the Large Festival Hall, the House for Mozart and the Felsenreitschule. Carved into the Mönchsberg cliff as a summer riding school, it is now one of the most striking stages in the world.

Your guide combines music history with anecdotes about conductors, singers and actors. The horse pond and Toscanini Courtyard are also on the way. On request a backstage tour of the festival halls can be added.
