This private wine tour in Langenlois shows Austria's largest wine town in the Kamptal valley. It combines historic cellar tunnels, modern wine architecture and a tasting of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
Langenlois lies where the Kamptal valley opens out and, with its large vineyard area, is Austria's largest wine town. Townhouses line the long main square, many with old cellars beneath them. Above the town rises the Heiligenstein, one of the country's most famous vineyards, with soils of desert sandstone and volcanic rock.
Since 2008 Kamptal has been a protected designation of origin for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. In 2003 the Loisium wine world opened, with a visitor center designed as a cube by architect Steven Holl standing above a centuries-old cellar labyrinth.
Your guide links town history, winegrowing and architecture, explains the soils and climate of the Kamptal and invites you to a tasting at a local winery.
