Maria Wörth and Pyramidenkogel: Lake Wörthersee from Above

Church peninsula and lookout tower on the south shore

Maria Wörth and Pyramidenkogel: Lake Wörthersee from AboveFamilyKärnten
Duration
2.5 hours
Languages
German, English

This private excursion combines the church peninsula of Maria Wörth on Lake Wörthersee with the observation tower on the Pyramidenkogel. You see one of Carinthia's best-known postcard views and look out over the lake, the Karawanks and the Klagenfurt basin.

Maria Wörth sits on a small peninsula and, with its two churches, the parish church and the Romanesque winter church, has been a pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages. Your guide tells you about monks, pilgrims and how Lake Wörthersee grew into a summer resort.

On the Pyramidenkogel stands one of the tallest wooden observation towers in the world, about 100 meters high, with platforms and a long slide for a fast way down. From the top you see the full length of the lake, the Maria Wörth peninsula and, on clear days, the peaks of the Julian Alps.

The excursion is private and planned around your group. We are happy to discuss transport, how long you would like to spend at each stop and where to take breaks before the day.

Frequently asked questions

Are entrance fees included?

No. Entrance fees for the tower and the slide are not included in the tour price and are paid on site. Your guide will let you know in advance which tickets you will need.

How is the price calculated?

This is a private tour, so you pay one price per group, not per person. The amount depends on the duration and group size, and you receive a quote with your request.

Is the tower okay if I am afraid of heights?

The platforms are well secured but open. If you feel uneasy, you can enjoy the view from the lower levels; an elevator takes you up.
