This private walking tour of Mödling shows a charming old town on the edge of the Vienna Woods. Beethoven worked on his Missa solemnis here, and Arnold Schoenberg developed twelve-tone music.

Mödling lies just a few kilometers south of Vienna and was a popular summer retreat as early as the 19th century. Its old town with a pedestrian zone, townhouses and late Gothic town hall is perfect for strolling. Above the town stands the parish church of St. Othmar with its Romanesque charnel house.

Ludwig van Beethoven spent several summers in Mödling and worked on the Missa solemnis among other pieces. About a hundred years later Arnold Schoenberg lived in a house on Bernhardgasse, where he developed the method of composing with twelve tones. The house is now a memorial.

Your guide links music and town history and shares tips for excursions nearby, such as the Hussar Temple or Liechtenstein Castle.
