Lake Ossiach: Ossiach Abbey and Landskron Castle
Monastery, music festival and a ruined castle above the lake

- Duration
- 3.0 hours
- Languages
- German, English
This private excursion takes you to Lake Ossiach near Villach, with Ossiach Abbey on the south shore and the ruins of Landskron Castle high above the end of the lake. It combines church history, music and views into a relaxed half day.
Ossiach Abbey is one of the oldest monasteries in Carinthia, and its Baroque church is richly decorated with stucco and frescoes. A legend links the place to the Polish king Bolesław II, said to have lived here as a penitent. Today the abbey is a venue of the Carinthischer Sommer music festival.
Landskron Castle sits on a rock between Lake Ossiach and Villach and offers a sweeping view of the valley. Around the castle there are birds of prey shows and a monkey park. Your guide tells of the lords of the castle, life on the lake and summer retreats in the shadow of the Gerlitzen.
The excursion is private and planned around your group. We are happy to discuss transport, how long you would like to spend at each stop and where to take breaks before the day.
