This private trip to Schloss Hof takes you to Austria's largest rural palace complex. Prince Eugene and Maria Theresa turned this country estate in the Marchfeld into a baroque masterpiece with gardens, state rooms and a working estate farm.
Schloss Hof lies east of Vienna near the March, the river that marks the border with Slovakia. Prince Eugene of Savoy bought the estate in 1725 and turned it into a splendid hunting and country palace. After his death Maria Theresa bought it and added another floor.
The baroque terraced gardens are famous, descending in seven levels toward the March with fountains, sculptures and cascades. In the state rooms you see how the court celebrated here. Rare domestic animal breeds live on the estate farm, and workshops show life on a baroque estate.
Your guide tells of Prince Eugene, victor over the Ottomans, and Maria Theresa's family festivities. On request we add the nearby Niederweiden hunting lodge.
