Schwarzenberg in the Bregenzerwald is one of the prettiest villages in Vorarlberg and the family home of the painter Angelika Kauffmann. This private tour shows her works in the parish church, the museum and the historic village square.
Angelika Kauffmann was born in Chur in 1741, and her father came from Schwarzenberg. As a young woman she painted the apostles in the parish church here. In London she later became a founding member of the Royal Academy, and she spent her final years in Rome.
The Angelika Kauffmann Museum, set in an old farmhouse, hosts changing exhibitions on her work, while the local heritage museum shows Bregenzerwald life with traditional dress and furniture.
The village square with its shingle-clad houses is considered one of the most beautiful in Vorarlberg. Each summer the Schubertiade festival draws music lovers from around the world to the Angelika Kauffmann Hall. Your guide blends art, music and village life.
