Weinviertel Cellar Lanes Bike Tour from Poysdorf

Cycle through vineyards, cellar lanes and gentle hills

Weinviertel Cellar Lanes Bike Tour from PoysdorfBikeNiederösterreich
Duration
3.0 hours
Languages
German, English

This private bike tour from Poysdorf takes you through the heart of the Weinviertel, the home of Grüner Veltliner. You ride over gentle hills and discover cellar lanes found in such numbers almost nowhere else.

The Weinviertel is Austria's largest wine region. In 2003 it introduced the country's first protected designation of origin, Weinviertel DAC, for a fresh, peppery Grüner Veltliner. Poysdorf is one of the region's most important wine towns.

Cellar lanes are typical here: rows of press houses and wine cellars outside the villages, often set in sunken lanes. The Weinviertel has more than a thousand of them, many owned by the same families for centuries. This is where wine was pressed, stored and celebrated.

Your guide picks quiet bike paths through vineyards and fields, explains winegrowing, loess soils and village life and plans a break in a cellar lane. Bikes, including e-bikes, can be rented or arranged on request, and a tasting is easy to include.
