This private tour of Vienna's Augarten combines garden design, porcelain and modern history. You discover Vienna's oldest baroque garden, the Augarten porcelain manufactory and the huge World War II flak towers.
The Augarten in the 2nd district is the oldest surviving baroque garden in Vienna. Emperor Joseph II opened it to the public in 1775, and Mozart gave concerts in its garden palace. Long avenues and clipped hedges still shape the park today.
Augarten Palace is home to the Augarten porcelain manufactory, whose history goes back to 1718 and which is one of the oldest in Europe. Porcelain is still shaped and painted by hand here. The Vienna Boys' Choir is also based in the park, in the Augarten Palais.
Two massive flak towers recall World War II. Your guide explains why they were built, why they could never be blown up and what debates surround their future.
