Lake Wörthersee Villas: Velden, Pörtschach and Music
Summer retreats, Brahms and a castle from TV

- Duration
- 2.0 hours
- Languages
- German, English
This private tour shows you Velden and Pörtschach on Lake Wörthersee, where summer villas, music history and television history meet. You will hear why Johannes Brahms composed here and which castle became famous through a popular TV series.
The Southern Railway brought guests from Vienna to Lake Wörthersee in the 19th century, and villas in the typical Wörthersee style with turrets, wooden balconies and boathouses rose along the shores. Johannes Brahms spent several summers in Pörtschach and worked there on his Second Symphony, among other pieces.
In Velden stands the lakeside castle that became known as the setting of the TV series 'Ein Schloss am Wörthersee'. Your guide also tells of Gustav Mahler, who had his composing hut on the south shore, and how the lake turned from an imperial resort into a meeting place for summer guests from all over Europe.
This is a private tour: just your own group, your pace and plenty of time for questions. Our licensed guides are happy to adjust the focus to your interests before the day.
