Gustav Klimt spent nearly every summer between 1900 and 1916 at Lake Attersee and painted many of his famous landscapes here. This private tour takes you to the places where those paintings were created.
Klimt came to the lake with the Flöge family; Emilie Flöge was his companion and muse. They spent their summers in Kammer, Litzlberg, Weissenbach and Unterach, rowing, swimming and painting.
Around 45 landscapes were painted at Attersee, often in a square format. Klimt framed his views with a telescope or a viewfinder and turned water, trees and houses into shimmering surfaces.
The Klimt Center in Schörfling and the Klimt theme trail bring this era to life today. Your guide compares motifs with the real views, for example the castle of Kammer and its famous avenue. It gives you a fresh look at paintings now hanging in museums from Vienna to New York.
