This private tour shows you Güssing Castle in southern Burgenland, which stands on an extinct volcanic cone and is considered the oldest castle in Burgenland. You will learn about the Batthyány family and how the town has changed up to today.

The castle hill of Güssing is volcanic in origin and rises high above the surrounding hills. A fortification stood here as early as the 12th century, and the castle later became the seat of the Batthyány family, who shaped the region for centuries.

Your guide walks you up to the castle, shows you the portrait gallery, chapel and view, and talks about border wars, noble life and faith. In town you see the Franciscan monastery with the Batthyány family crypt and hear how Güssing recently became known as a pioneer in renewable energy.

This is a private tour: just your own group, your pace and plenty of time for questions. Our licensed guides are happy to adjust the focus to your interests before the day.
