This private tour shows you Frauenkirchen in the Seewinkel, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Burgenland. It focuses on the Baroque basilica, the Calvary hill and the history of the town's Jewish community.
The Esterházy princes had the pilgrimage church splendidly rebuilt in the 17th century after the old church was destroyed in the Ottoman wars. The revered image of Our Lady on the Heath still draws pilgrims, and the basilica impresses with its stucco, frescoes and altars.
Frauenkirchen was also one of the Seven Communities, the Jewish communities under Esterházy protection. Your guide shows you traces of this heritage, including the Jewish cemetery, and explains how pilgrimage, trade and farming shaped life in the Seewinkel.
This is a private tour: just your own group, your pace and plenty of time for questions. Our licensed guides are happy to adjust the focus to your interests before the day.
