Imperial Graz: Cathedral, Mausoleum and Castle
Following the Habsburgs through a residence city

- Duration
- 1.5 hours
- Languages
- German, English
This private tour shows Graz as a Habsburg residence city, with its cathedral, the Mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II and the Graz Castle. A highlight is the Gothic double spiral staircase of 1499, a masterpiece of late Gothic stonework.
Emperor Frederick III liked to reside in Graz and left his mysterious motto AEIOU all over town. He built today's cathedral, and right next to it the Mausoleum of Ferdinand II was later added, one of the most important Mannerist buildings in Austria.
Inside the Graz Castle, now the seat of the Styrian government, your guide takes you to the double spiral staircase, whose two flights keep parting and meeting again. You will learn how Graz became capital of Inner Austria and why the court eventually moved to Vienna.
This is a private tour: just your own group, your pace and plenty of time for questions. Our licensed guides are happy to adjust the focus to your interests before the day.
