Contemporary design along the Mur River

This private architecture tour of Graz links the Kunsthaus, the Murinsel and new buildings with the historic old town. You will learn why Graz has been a UNESCO City of Design since 2011 and how its year as European Capital of Culture in 2003 changed the city.
Graz is not only Baroque and Gothic. The 2003 Capital of Culture year brought two buildings that are now among the most photographed sights in town: the Kunsthaus by Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, nicknamed the 'Friendly Alien', and Vito Acconci's Murinsel, a steel and glass island in the middle of the river.
Your guide shows how old and new sit side by side, from views of the Clock Tower to the Lend district and recent buildings along the riverbank. Along the way you will hear about the 'Graz School' of architecture, which has drawn international attention since the 1960s.
This is a private tour: just your own group, your pace and plenty of time for questions. Our licensed guides are happy to adjust the focus to your interests before the day.
