This private tour tells the story of the Jewish community in Graz, from the medieval quarter to the new synagogue. It connects places of remembrance with Jewish life today in the Styrian capital.

Jews lived in Graz as early as the Middle Ages, until they were expelled from Styria at the end of the 15th century. Only in the 19th century did a new community form, contributing to the city's economy and culture and building a splendid synagogue on the west bank of the Mur.

In November 1938 the synagogue was destroyed, and many members of the community were driven out or murdered. In 2000 a new synagogue with a glass dome opened on the same site. Your guide shows you memorials, shares personal stories and talks about how Graz remembers.

This is a private tour: just your own group, your pace and plenty of time for questions. Our licensed guides are happy to adjust the focus to your interests before the day.
