Linz on the Danube is closely tied to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Anton Bruckner. This private music walk shows where Mozart wrote his Linz Symphony and where Bruckner served as cathedral organist.
In autumn 1783 Mozart stopped in Linz on his way back to Vienna and stayed at the Thun Palace in the old town, now known as the Mozart House. For a concert he wrote a brand new symphony in just a few days, the Linz Symphony.
Anton Bruckner was organist at the Old Cathedral for more than ten years and developed his style as a composer in Linz. Johannes Kepler and Adalbert Stifter also lived in town, and their traces lie along the way.
On the Danube stands the Brucknerhaus, one of Austria's best known concert halls. Each year the Bruckner Festival opens with the Linz Klangwolke, an open-air sound spectacle for the whole city. Your guide links classical music with the present.
