Lake Neusiedl National Park: Steppe, Salt Lakes and Birds
A nature outing in the Seewinkel around Illmitz

This private nature excursion takes you to the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park, one of the richest bird habitats in Central Europe. You discover salt lakes, steppe, reed beds and the grazing animals that keep the landscape open.
The Seewinkel east of Lake Neusiedl looks more like Hungary than the Alps: wide plains, shallow salt lakes and meadows with grey cattle, water buffalo and white donkeys. The cross-border national park was founded in 1993 to protect this unique habitat.
Your guide shows you viewing points around Illmitz and the Lange Lacke, explains why so many migratory birds stop here and talks about how people and nature live together in the region. Binoculars are well worth bringing, especially in spring and fall.
The excursion is private and planned around your group. We are happy to discuss transport, how long you would like to spend at each stop and where to take breaks before the day.

No. Entrance fees for exhibitions at the visitor center are not included in the tour price and are paid on site. Your guide will let you know in advance which tickets you will need.
How is the price calculated?
This is a private tour, so you pay one price per group, not per person. The amount depends on the duration and group size, and you receive a quote with your request.
When is the best time for birdwatching?
Spring and fall are best, when migratory birds rest in the Seewinkel. In summer you will still see breeding birds and grazing animals.
