Schladming: Mountain Town of Silver and Skiing
From medieval miners to world championships

- Duration
- 1.5 hours
- Languages
- German, English
This private tour tells the story of Schladming, the mountain town in Styria's Enns Valley at the foot of the Dachstein and the Planai. You will learn how a mining town became an international ski resort that has twice hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships.
In the Middle Ages silver and copper mining brought Schladming wealth, and the miners had their own rights and customs. After peasant wars and the decline of mining the town grew quiet, until tourism revived it in the 20th century.
Your guide shows you the Salzburg Gate, old townhouses and churches and explains why Schladming has both a Catholic and a Protestant parish church. You will hear about the World Championships of 1982 and 2013 and enjoy views of the mountains that define the town.
This is a private tour: just your own group, your pace and plenty of time for questions. Our licensed guides are happy to adjust the focus to your interests before the day.
