St. Florian Abbey near Linz is one of Austria's most magnificent Baroque monasteries and is closely tied to the composer Anton Bruckner. This private tour combines architecture, art and music history.
The Augustinian abbey stands over the grave of Saint Florian, patron saint against fire. The Baroque complex was designed by Carlo Antonio Carlone and Jakob Prandtauer, with a marble hall, a library and a grand staircase.
Anton Bruckner came to St. Florian as a choirboy, later became abbey organist and returned throughout his life. At his own request he is buried in the crypt directly beneath the great organ that now bears his name.
Art lovers appreciate the paintings by Albrecht Altdorfer, a master of the Danube School. Your guide shows how faith, learning and music shaped the abbey over the centuries.
