Strudengau by Bike: Grein to Ybbs

On the Danube cycle path through the wildest valley of the upper Danube

Strudengau by Bike: Grein to YbbsBikeOberösterreich
Duration
3.0 hours
Languages
German, English

The Danube cycle path is one of Europe's most popular, and the Strudengau is among its finest stretches. Your guide accompanies you from Grein towards Ybbs.

Wooded slopes come close to the river, and castles and ruins crown the rocks. On the well-built cycle path you ride gently downstream while your guide tells you about the rapids and whirlpools that made navigation here an adventure for centuries.

Along the way you see the island of Wörth and Werfenstein Castle and learn how pilgrims, merchants and crusaders travelled on the Danube. At the Ybbs-Persenbeug power station, one of Austria's first large Danube dams, your guide explains how the river was tamed. Opposite lies Persenbeug Castle, birthplace of the last emperor, Karl I.

Bikes or e-bikes can be rented or arranged for you on request. The tour is private and priced per group.
