Traunkirchen and Lake Traunsee: The Fishermen's Pulpit
A peninsula, a pilgrimage church and Austria's deepest lake

- Duration
- 2.0 hours
- Languages
- German, English
Traunkirchen sits on a peninsula in Lake Traunsee and is one of the most picturesque villages in the Salzkammergut. This private tour combines the famous Fishermen's Pulpit with viewpoints and an optional boat ride.
A convent stood on the rock above the lake as early as the Middle Ages, later taken over by the Jesuits. The parish church holds the famous 18th century Fishermen's Pulpit, carved as a fishing boat complete with nets and fish.
A short climb leads to St. John's Chapel on the hill, with sweeping views over the lake and the Traunstein mountain. Here you understand why painters and photographers love the spot.
If you like, continue by boat to Gmunden or Ebensee. The lake is home to the Gisela, one of the oldest paddle steamers in the world. Your guide adds local legends and lake stories.
