This private Beethoven tour in Vienna's Heiligenstadt leads to the places where Ludwig van Beethoven despaired, hoped and composed. Among winemakers' houses and streams his music comes alive.
Ludwig van Beethoven moved from Bonn to Vienna in 1792 and stayed until his death in 1827. He changed apartments dozens of times and spent many summers in the villages on the edge of the Vienna Woods.
In Heiligenstadt he wrote the Heiligenstadt Testament in 1802, a moving letter about his growing deafness. The house is now part of the Beethoven Museum. On the Beethovengang path along the Schreiberbach stream he looked for peace in nature, which echoes in his Pastoral Symphony.
Your guide links music and life story, shares tales of patrons, outbursts and friendships, and shows you winemakers' houses where Beethoven lived. A visit to a Heuriger wine tavern is a perfect way to finish.
