House of Music for Families: Feel the Sound, Be the Conductor
A sound museum to listen, marvel and join in

This private family tour of the House of Music in Vienna lets kids discover music with all their senses. The highlight is the virtual conductor, where the whole family gets to lead the Vienna Philharmonic.
The House of Music is set in an old town palace where Otto Nicolai, founder of the Vienna Philharmonic, once lived. Today it is a sound museum where you do not just listen to music, you feel it, try it out and make it yourself.
On several floors kids learn how sounds are made, how the ear works and how noise turns into music. They play with sound objects, compose with dice just like in Mozart's day and meet great Viennese composers from Haydn and Beethoven to Strauss.
The virtual conductor is great fun: conduct too slowly or too fast and the orchestra lets you know. Your guide explains things in a kid-friendly way, sets riddles and makes sure the grown-ups learn something too.
