Four powers, summit meetings and secret rendezvous

This private spy tour of Vienna explains why the city was a hub for intelligence services during the Cold War. You follow agents, diplomats and defectors through the old town.
After 1945 Vienna was divided into four occupation zones for ten years, and the old town was run jointly by the Allies. Americans, British, French and Soviets watched each other closely, and intelligence services on all sides built their networks.
Even after the State Treaty of 1955, neutral Austria remained a meeting point between East and West. In 1961 John F. Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev held a summit in Vienna. International organizations such as the Atomic Energy Agency and OPEC moved here, bringing diplomats from every country. Vienna became the scene of spy swaps and spy novels.
Your guide shows places where people negotiated, watched and exchanged secrets, and explains why Vienna still has that reputation today.
