This private wine tour in Vienna's Stammersdorf shows the city's most rural wine area. Between the cellar lane, the Bisamberg hill and the wine taverns you discover Wiener Gemischter Satz.
Vienna is the only major capital in the world with significant vineyards inside its city limits. In the 21st district lies Stammersdorf, a wine village with a rural feel that seems closer to the countryside than to a big city.
The Stammersdorf cellar lane is lined with old press houses and wine cellars, some dug into the loess soil. On the slopes of the Bisamberg grow the grapes for Wiener Gemischter Satz, a field blend in which different grape varieties grow in the same vineyard and are harvested and pressed together. It has been a protected designation of origin since 2013.
Your guide explains winegrowing, Heuriger culture and wine tavern traditions and leads you to a tasting at a local winery, with views across the vineyards to the city.
