In short: Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027, and Easter Monday is a public holiday in Austria. In the weeks before, Easter markets open, for example on the Freyung and in front of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, and in Salzburg.
Traditions
On Palm Sunday, bundles of pussy willow and box are blessed. During Holy Week the church bells fall silent, and in some villages children walk around with wooden rattles instead. Easter fires burn on Holy Saturday night, and an Austrian Easter breakfast means ham, horseradish and painted eggs.
